Institute of Strategic Research and Analysis (ISRA)

The Institute of Strategic Research and Analysis (ISRA) is a critical component of the Zimbabwe National Defence University as the premier think tank on strategic national policy and securityconcerns. ISRA is the engine that drive the university research process and provides think tankservices to the state on issues of National Security through research papers, workshops and seminars. The ISRA also has an important role of identifying agenda items for study by ‘ndc’participants. The Institute has three departments; Research & Development, Defence Doctrine,Workshops and Seminars.

To be the leading research institute in global defence and security matters in pursuit of national interests, fostering nation-building and driving social, economic, governance, political cohesion, and national stability.

Mandate

To be the leading national defence and security institution grounded in Zimbabwean national interests and values, providing quality programmes that foster continuous research and innovation to comprehensively address challenges within the global defence and security environment.

Mission

To spearhead research and analysis on strategic, national, and international defence and security issues for the Zimbabwe National Defence University.

Core functions

• Carrying out research work and working with comparable and relevant institutions engaged in research work.
• Identifying agenda items for research and debate by both the National Defence Course and the Academic Faculty and helping in supervising participant’s research work.
• Organising and running seminars and workshops internally as well as hosting acceptable externally sponsored seminars and workshops whose objectives are in tandem with the mission of the university.
•  Compiling and synthesizing resolutions from seminars and workshops for onward transmission to relevant user departments.
• Carrying out thorough analysis of national and global politico-military and socio economic trends on strategic and policy issues as well as proposing responses on identified areas of interest or threats.
